Matcha Green Tea Cookies Recipe

Can a cookie forestall aging? Our matcha green tea cookies may help! Matcha powder has antioxidants, which are thought to fight certain diseases and reduce cell damage.

We’ve decided to have our tea and eat it too in these yummy green tea cookies. Matcha powder and dough blend together more easily than regular tealeaves, producing a unique texture not usually found in other cookies.

They’re easy to make—just mix ingredients together, press flat and let rest for 30 minutes. Put a little icing on it and you’ve got yourself an unconventional cookie that’s great all year round!

• 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature, 1 stick
• 1 cup sugar
• 2 egg yolks
• 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
• 1/2 cup sour cream
• 1/2 tsp baking powder
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 2 Tbsp green tea powder matcha, plus more for garnish
• 2 cups flour
• 1 1 1/2" cookie cutters, round

icing

• 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
• 4 Tbsp water
• 1 Tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
• 1 Tbsp corn syrup

• Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
• Cream butter and sugar with mixer until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, vanilla and sour cream and mix until combined.
• Stir baking powder, salt, matcha powder and flour together in separate bowl.
• Combine dry ingredients with creamed ingredients and mix until smooth. Place dough onto cookie sheet and press flat, then let rest for 30 minutes in refrigerator.
• Roll out dough to ½” thickness on lightly floured surface and cut cookies with cookie cutter.
• Arrange on cookie sheet 2” apart and bake for 10-15 minutes, until edges start to brown. Place cookies onto cooling rack.

• Mix powdered sugar, water, butter and corn syrup together until smooth. Add more powdered sugar if icing is too runny.
