How To Cook Potato Roses

Potatoes are downright delicious, but baked potatoes can get… a little boring. There’s just nothing inspiring about them. Sure, you can add on condiments, but the potato itself is just one big lump.

Thanks to awesome food pioneers like Tasty, this doesn’t have to be the case. Now you can have your potato on display as the centerpiece of your plate. How is it possible to make the fairly ugly vegetable look so good? Turn it into a rose!

The potato rose combines all the goodness of a potato with all the beauty of a garden. Okay, so it doesn’t compare to a real rose, but it will make your meal look a whole lot more appetizing. The best part is that this recipe is that this recipe is fairly easy to complete. Follow these simple steps, and you will have a delicious potato rose in no time.

You will need:

  • 4 yukon gold potatoes, halved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 strips center cut bacon
  • fresh thyme, to serve
  • grated parmesan cheese, to serve

Instructions :

  1. First, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or 200 degrees Celsius. Ovens take time to heat, so it’s a good idea to do this step before starting any of your other preparations.
  2. This next step requires two tools: a mandolin and a hand guard. Using both, thinly slice your potatoes, and put the pieces in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add your seasonings. In recipes like this the seasoning is always best prepared to taste, but Tasty recommends incorporating olive oil, garlic powder, thyme, rosemary, pepper, and salt. Mix it all together in the bowl with the potatoes, making sure to coat each slice evenly.
  4. Next lay out two pieces of bacon on a cutting board. Place them so that they overlap each other vertically.
  5. Line the bacon with slices of potatoes. Be sure to overlap each slice at least a bit so that they fold properly.
